Case Study: Integrated Security Solutions for a Multi-Level Building in Bukit Merah

Integrated commercial security solutions deployed for a multi-level business building in Bukit Merah

May 20, 2026

Project Overview

Managing a busy commercial facility requires keeping entry points moving smoothly. At the same time, you must maintain tight control over internal operations.

For this project, the facility is located along the high-density industrial corridor of Jalan Kilang, Bukit Merah in Singapore. Our objective was to eliminate a messy, fragmented setup of isolated devices. Instead, we consolidated the building's entire network backbone into a single, centralized 22U floor-standing enclosure.

The Challenge

The client needed to facilitate rapid access for staff and visitors at the main entrance of a multi-level facility (Levels 1 and 2) while enforcing strict operational privacy inside.

Management needed full camera coverage and a solid internal phone system, but they didn't want bulky equipment taking up valuable office floor space or ugly wires ruining the clean look of their professional environment.

Technical Constraint: Best practice is to use two internet lines from different ISPs so the business stays online if one line fails. However, this site was constrained to a single ISP line, so the network had to be tuned carefully to keep heavy video surveillance traffic from disrupting VoIP calls.

Technical Implementation Overview

The following technical nodes represent the enterprise-grade stack deployed to create a resilient, interoperable ecosystem.

Role
Deep-learning Face Recognition (0.2s auth) for frictionless, high-traffic entry.
4MP 180° Panoramic Bullet for visual continuity and bandwidth efficiency.
802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 Managed Mesh supporting high-density mobile SIP roaming.
Enterprise IP-PBX managing 19 wireless SIP endpoints for facility-wide mobility.
24-Port Managed PoE+ Switch; VLAN-capable for traffic segmentation.

Deployment Methodology

The effectiveness of this deployment relied on strategic hardware selection to solve specific site-level issues:

Frictionless Access for High-Traffic Zones
To manage high visitor volume at the main entrance, we deployed AI-powered Face Recognition terminals. This facilitates 0.2-second authentication, ensuring staff and authorized visitors move quickly through entry points while maintaining a "hands-free" secure environment.

Panoramic Monitoring for Real-Time Oversight
To provide comprehensive remote monitoring, we utilized 4MP 180° Panoramic Bullet cameras. By leveraging a wide-angle lens architecture, we achieved 100% floor coverage of the showroom with fewer devices, significantly reducing the bandwidth strain on the client's single ISP.

Aesthetic & Physical Consolidation
To preserve the professional environment's integrity, the entire networking and security core, including the PoE switch, SIP server, and 8-zone alarm panel was centralized within a 22U Floor Standing Enclosure, eliminating visible cable clutter.

High-Density Connectivity for Internal Mobility
The challenge of multi-level communication was addressed through a Wi-Fi 6 Managed Fabric. Seven strategically positioned APs provide a seamless wireless mesh, allowing a fleet of 19 wireless IP phones to remain connected to the IP-PBX as staff roam between levels.

Resolving Network Latency & Jitter
To ensure that heavy video streams did not cause audio dropping on the office phones over the shared ISP link, the EnGenius switch was configured to separate data priorities. Voice traffic was isolated onto VLAN 10 (Voice) with strict 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization, while camera feeds were mapped to VLAN 20 (Data) and capped at a maximum bit rate of 4096 Kbps per channel.

Compliance, Safety, & Data Privacy

Operating a commercial space in Singapore requires strict adherence to local regulations. This installation was engineered from day one to meet local regulatory benchmarks:

SCDF Fire Code Integration

To comply with Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) regulations, we ensured all emergency exit buttons (push-to-exit) and green break-glass override switches were installed at the exact legal heights and placements next to the secured doors. This guarantees anyone can easily find and manually override the electronic locks to exit safely during an emergency.

Singapore PDPA Alignment

In line with Singapore PDPA guidelines on biometric data, the terminal stores facial data as secure, numeric templates rather than raw photos. Because Hikvision builds "Privacy by Design" into these units, this biometric data is encrypted locally by default directly on the device hardware. This ensures the data cannot be intercepted or reversed into a physical image, keeping your facility fully compliant with local privacy laws.

The Results

The facility is now fully secured with total visual coverage of all high-value zones, providing management with real-time mobile oversight and total peace of mind. Staff can now roam and access all levels with seamless biometric authentication and uninterrupted voice connectivity, ensuring business operations remain fluid and secure.
